Dirty, Dilapidated, Decrepit Dump!!!
I purchased a RCI voucher at a charity auction and ended up at the Mayan Palace. This was our sixth trip to Mexico in 4 years and we have also traveled extensively all over the world. This hotel is by far the worst I have I ever stayed in. The Mayan Palace is due for demolition in less than 2 years so you can imagine its current condition. Our first room 741, had a lovely view of the construction site of the new Mayan Palace. The sofas were stained, the thermostat was filthy and broken, the bed mattress super uncomfortable, the furniture was scratched up, the microwave was cracked, there were scores of little bugs all over, etc. You get the picture. I reached out to the front desk for help but was dismissed rightaway. My wife and I went down to the lobby and asked for the manager. After a lot of excuses, the duty manager offered to move us to another room, 553. A little cleaner and a partial pool view. The limited dining choices here are super overpriced and the majority of the wait staff is clueless. We did have a good dinner on the night of the shrimp buffet. The drinks are very weak and about $10 for a scotch and water! The pools are very nice as is the beautiful beach. The staff is very unfriendly, struggle with basic english and avoid helping you as much as they can. We spent a lot of time away from the hotel and in town. The front desk staff is particularly rude and the timeshare folks are everywhere. The Grand Mayan resort which is part of the complex looked a million times better in terms of decor, cleanliness and luxury. I offered to pay the difference and asked to be moved to the Grand Mayan but was told another story and declined. If you love to vacation in squalor, far from the sights, pay through the nose and enjoy insect bites, this is definetly the hotel for you!!! Otherwise, keep looking!!!

Fabulous
I just got back from Acapulco. The Mayan Palace was great. The staff is very friendly. The pool is a mile long! The Ocean was very beautiful. They offer many things to do. I had a great time. You can do many things and they do fun things at night like contests and such. The prices at the restaurants were very very reasonable. Just gorgeous. Everything was perfect there.

Under Re-Construction???
As a guest of an R.C.I. owner, I arrived Sunday Aug 28, the day before Katrina, and departed Sunday Sep 04th. Having been their guest many times over the past twenty-five years, I fully expected a Top Flight, four+ facility, as had always been our experience.

Mayan Palace = Mayan Rock Beds
Where to start? Ok, the Acapulco Mayan Palace is located on the "Diamante" zone, which is really close to the airport but very far from everything else. When you walk in, your eyes are just amaze at how clean, exotic and appealing the scenerey looks. The rooms are decent size, all with tiled floors and bathrooms, some with kitchenetes and useless baclonies. The furniture is outdated and very "colorful", the TVs were so outdated as well. The AC worked very well, can't compain about that. The biggest disappointment that almost ruined the trip was THE BED! It was as hard as a rock. We complained and they got us some pads, which eventually helped, but there's nothing like a Heavenly Bed from Westin hotels. Other than that, we really didn't have alot of complaints and we didn't really eat there, so I can't say that the prices were decent because usually resorts are pricey anyway. The resort also has the longest pool in the world, and it truly is long, so you can't complain that the pool was full of people! They also have like a small waterpark for the kids, almost made me want to go in there and enjoy it. The resort also has paddle boats, which may be fun if it wasn't so hot ('95F + humidity), and there is also a small train that goes aroun the entire resort, but it was out of service when we were there, seems like they are fixing it. We ventured out, there is a Walmart about 2 blocks away and a Mickey D's as well. If you do decide to go to the Zona Costera (where all the action, restaurants and nightlife takes place), you will have to pass Puerto Marques and it will eventually take you about 20-30 minutes to get there. The one good thing about beach next to the Mayan Palce is that it's not so populated like all the other beaches where the natives go to. It also has really great soft grey sand, unlike the rocky pebble sand from the other beaches. The disadvantage is that the waves are really high and strong, so if you're not a decent swimmer, stick to the swimming pool. Overall, in my opinion, this specific resort will come in handy to the people who don't wish to venture out and want to spend time with the family and kids. Teenagers may not enjoy the fact that they are away from all the "fun" stuff. If you do want to venture out, rent a car, don't even bother getting a Taxi because you will pay anywhere from $10-15 one way and it adds up. I don't know if I'll go back to Acapulco anytime soon, but now I know what to expect from Mayan Palace. Many people complain about the staff bugging them to go to the timeshare meetings and we said NO once and they left us alone. The Mayan Palace felt decent, but you may consider the Mayan Sea Garden instead, it's more up to date and it's all in the same resort, next to each other. Hope this helps.
