The reserve is on the west (Tharwa Village side) of the river and extends along the banks on either side of the historic Tharwa Bridge. Built in 1895, it is the oldest standing bridge in the Australian Capital Territory. You can walk under the bridge and view its engineering techniques. The reserve offers a tranquil picnic area with barbecue facilities amongst a blend of exotic and native vegetation. The northern section retains more of the native vegetation and is home to a range of wildlife, especially birds.
