In 1843, following requests by the neighborhood, the city of Toulouse organized an architectural competition to design this church. The winning project was a neo-Gothic construction, which suited the local tastes of the time, but the Parisian Civilian Buildings' Counsel rejected the plans in favor of Auguste Delort's design. There ensued long and unpopular building work, which was never quite finished. As a result, this rather impressive church has a unique style. Massive but eclectic, it stands in the middle of a large sunny square, in the centre of a district that's becoming more and more lively.
