Dont eat here if you cannot afford it...
We recently ate at Mezzalira and were totally shocked by the rudeness of the owner / manager. They messed up our order, and when we said something to the waitress the manager came over to us and was so rude, basically told us it was our fault, said to my wife that if we couldn’t afford to eat at a place like this then don’t come, and him and his mate abused us as when we left the premises. We have eaten at restaurants all over the world, from a food vendor on the side of the road in China, to Michelin starred restaurants through Europe, and have never had such atrocious service as this. Looking over the reviews in trip advisor, we aren’t the only customers who have been treated this way either.

We wont be going back
I understand now why Mezzalira has lost its chef hat, the food is over priced, the service is terrible and the place has no ambience. The owner needs to eat at "The Italian" in Melbourne if they want to compete in the Italian fine dining space. The general opinion in our group was that none of us will be returning to Mezzalira.

This is no fine dining.
This is supposed to be fine dining, but first impression is that it was once a cafe that has dimmed its lights and doubled the price. The decor is outdated, the staff not very professional and the wine list fairly average, especially by the glass. The food was fine, but not for the price that was charged. Very disappointing and will not be going back.

anti climax
I must say that I had been looking forward to dinner at Mezzalira all week as I'd read great things in the Sydney Morning Herald and in the Gourmet Traveller Good Restaurant Guide.

won't eat here again
i'll be the first to admit that i am no fine dinning connoisseur. luckily my girlfriend is and it was not just my ignorance. we were in canberra for a couple of days and came to this restaurant around 7pm. they were pretty much empty but decided to put us at the table right next to the bar. i asked if we could have a better table, but was told that they were fully booked for the night. after that the service was snotty, the food was very average: the duck was almost flavourless and the 'suckling pig' was chewy to the point of me having to spit it out. there was no ambience in the place either. to wrap up our terrible experience the restaurant was still empty as we left making me very angry at having to sit next to someone preparing food.
