Great place to stay!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and you can almost feel its history as you sit in the wonderful bar and imagine all the stories that the walls of the hotel could tell you. When we first arrived I was a little disappointed as it was our honeymoon and our room was very basic and had a dead cockroach on the floow, just outside the fridge door. My husband phoned reception who immediately moved us to a corner room which was much more spacious, brighter and more comfortable in general. There is a general smell of dampness within the hotel but I suppose this is to be expected due to its age and history. The restaurant and buffet was fantastic with a wide range of choice of good food.

not as good as expected
We have just spent six or so days at the sevilla hotel in havana, and it really wasn't that great. The recption area is impressive (not air conditioned - the airconditioning failed while we were staying there and it became very hot in the rooms) and the ground bar ok for drinks and light snacks (everything comes with carrott or toast!). The rooms are basic some with good views over the city others with views of walls. The bathrooms are not too clean and the towls are not white!! however all are fitted with new sower heads that work well. Each room has a TV which picks up American news and film channels. The swimming pool is a great area and the pool is a really good size. The people working there were friendly. Watch out for the lifts which are slow generally and infrequent on the way down. DO go to the roof top resturant even if it is just for the views, it is amazing! (and the food isn't too bad)

going there again this summer
I really loved the attention to service we recived at the hotel. I was really impressed the first time we entered our room the maids formed the towels in the shape of two swans on the bed, that set the tone for our entire vaction! The ceilings are tall and elegant, really european architecture at its best. We loved it!

see it before The USA shows up
If you like the idea of Havana before the revolution and before American influence arrives than this is the place for you. All the charm of Cuba, non of the wasted years of communist rule.

Clean and in good location
Food was good by Cuban hotel standards. Staff were helpful. Rooms were very clean. During our stay the lifts were a bit unreliable with log jams at times. The only stairs were down via slam door fire escapes. Location is excellent for Prado and museums, lots of history with pre-war B&W photos in the lobby of famous guests. Reasonably priced internet access (2 Convertible Pesos for 15 minutes)
