There is a chance to experience the golden age of steam on this one and a half hour round trip from Bury to Rawtenstall on the East Lancashire Railway. You can break your journey at any of the four stations along the way, with opportunities to enjoy a line-side picnic at Ramsbottom or Irwell Vale. Some of the trains are pulled by diesel engines, so check beforehand if you are particularly keen to book a steam train ride.There is a whole program of events during the year, including lunch and tea trains, a 1940s Wartime Weekend, Thomas the Tank Engine days and Santa Special trains. Disabled facilities include a specially adapted carriage with wide doors and hydraulic lifts.
