Do not stay at the Mercure!
Though the hotel was clean and modern, I would not recommend staying at the Mercure because the receptionist staff was very unprofessional. When I checked -in to the hotel, I was told by the man working at the desk that breakfast was not included in the room rate. However, upon checking out, I was charged $197 additional dollars for the 5 days of breakfast that my friend and I hadn’t eaten. When I told the receptionist that I hadn’t eaten breakfast and that I had been promised a lower rate, she firmly told me that breakfast is always included and that she didn’t know why the other receptionist would have said otherwise. I spent a good 20 minutes arguing with her, as I was upset that the staff had misinformed me and every morning, I left and paid additional money for another breakfast elsewhere. After much discussion, she finally agreed to call her colleague to confirm the story. Unfortunately, she was not able to reach him and I had to leave for the airport to catch my flight. She then promised me that she would email me and possibly refund the difference that was charged to my credit card. However, after a week and many ignored emails, she never responded. I finally contacted the manager, but she sided with the staff, saying that the receptionist claimed that he had not said anything to the effect. Overall, I was very unhappy with the way that this situation was handled and would recommend staying elsewhere. Incidentally, when I returned home after the trip, I checked the hotel’s website, and it turns out that they do charge 13 Euros/person for breakfast. In addition, I saw another story on tripadvisor.com that reported being charged for breakfast which they didn’t eat, so I am beginning to wonder if this is a common occurrence at this hotel. . .
