This historic South Loop mansion was designed and built in 1870 by Otis L. Wheelock for Calvin Wheeler, the former president of the Chicago Board of Trade. The current owners, Scott and Debra Seger, struggled to refurbish the red brick Italianate building, but managed to transform the old building into an 11 room boutique hotel. Guests are treated with extravagances befitting royalty. Beds are filled with goose down, and the meals, prepared by British chef Denise Renalds, are served on bone China. The Segers imported all of the furniture from Europe. They restored every inch of the building's interior, including the Minton-Hollins tiles on the floors of the guest bathrooms. This is, pound for pound, one of the nicest places to stay in all of Chicago, making it a good idea to book reservations well in advance of your visit to the Windy City.Rooms & Charges
