Back to Piazza San Pietro WOW. It is Impressive Now we walked to the Piazza St. Pietre. The large expanse of the square opened up in front of us. We caught it at sunset so our pictures from the East are obscured by the sun’s bright rays. Some of our photos have the rays emanating from the basilica into the sky above the square. The 2 curved balustrades to each side of the basilica that surrounded the square marveled us. The large columns topped by more sculptures are impressive. It is a large square. It hit me. This is the place so many people gather for significant Vatican events. This is the location of so many historically significant happenings.

A scale so massive it is difficult to appreciate St. Peters Square is something that you must see if you are in Vatican City, but be forwarned it is huge! The statutues on top of the arms of the porticos on either side of the square are 25 feet tall! The statues on top of Saint Peter's are even taller. The writing on Saint Peter's is 12 feet tall.
