This is one of the largest plazas in the world with 40 hectares of esplanades, fountains and gardens, around which the main public and historic buildings of the city are located. The main hotel area is located near the Macroplaza. Its second level underground has restaurants and brand name shops. Some of the buildings which surround this place are the Government Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Capilla de los Dulces Nombres (Chapel of the Sweet Names), the Faro de Comercio (The Commerce Beacon), the City Theatre and Monterrey Casino. Municipal and federal government offices are also found in the area.
