The Heart of New Berlin
One of the Biggest Film Fests
Initiated by the American military, this festival first took place in West Berlin in 1951. Today, the festival treads the middle ground between East and West and has become an international forum for international films. The competition, which is judged by an international jury, takes center stage at the festival and winners are presented with a golden bear. Premieres and first screenings by both established filmmakers and newcomers, as well as documentaries from the last year are screened alongside short films. Ticket prices and viewing schedule are available starting in the fall; call or check the website. Venues include Potsdamer Platz's CinemaxX, International, CineStar, Deutsche Kinemathek, Zoo Palast, Colosseum, Cinema Paris, Babylon Berlin Mitte, Cubix, Arsenal, Delphi Filmpalast, Berlinale Palast, Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin and Urania.
