Back to Ocean Reef Yacht Club & Resort Had a great time! We stayed in an oversized two bedroom suite, and it was spacious, clean, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. The large deck was perfect in the evenings. We went diving with Grand Bahama Scuba (on site), and that couldn't have been any better - safety and fun wise. Grouper's Restaurant had some very good dishes. Ray the resident manager helped us in every way possible - he is a great guy. Stay away from the Dutch man. He didn't seem too firendly. Lucaya and several beaches are walkable, or you can take a free daily shuttle from the resort, hire a taxi, or use the very affordable, but charmingly random public bus service. Don't miss the Wednesday night fish fry at Smith's Point. We rented a car one day and drove to the other end of the island - a whole other place. We really enjoyed Ocean Reef's accomodations, amentities, and staff, and we'll definitely go back.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Nov 24 2008 Will NEVER go back - even if it was free The resort was old and run down, but clean. The staff at the restaurant was HORRIBLE at best. The manager of the resort was rude, arrogant and treated our family awful. I was appalled, disappointed and he ruined our vacation. I have never been so poorly treated in my life. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I would recommened the Sheraton or the Windham in Port Lucaya - they were beautiful and centrally located. getting taxis' from here was expensive and the buses NEVER run on time. the "courtesy bus" from the resort never picked us up from the beach when scheduled and no one could seem to get things straight the ORYC - it seemed as though they opened the day before and had a lot of glitches to work out.

I don't understand some of the negative comments other people have been writing about this resort. Of course, always complaining can put people off at the end even if they are the staff! Respect and courtesy goes both ways.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 30 2007 Run down but friendly The hotel rooms are clean however a little run down looking. There is a small pool and one resturaunt (with awful service) on site. During the summer mosquitos are a BIG problem. The location is around 5 miles from anything. There is one cab service for the Ocean Reef...if they are not available ..like say they feel they have put in a days work or perhaps it is a holiday..then you are on your own to find your way into town. Also, there are around 2 blackouts a day on the complex..have no fear..it happens all the time and the power will be up and running in around 10 minutes. If you want to save money this is the place to be..However you get what you pay for..no frills with a smile.
Reviewed by: michelle from on Jul 19 2007 Own a time share here. My husband owned a time share with ORYC when I met him. This will be our third time going down since we were married in 2000, and we'll be going down this year with 8 other people. The staff there is very friendly, and accommodating. I've read several of the reviews, and one of the people commented said that they take a commission for the activities that they book for you. This may be true, but in comparison to what they charge, for what you would pay if you booked it on your own, there's no real difference...and, it's more convenient for them to do it. The units have always been clean, and the staff generally comes in mid-week to give the unit a wipe down. I've never had any issues with the pools, and have found them both to be very clean. My children have used the tennis court, and the game room, and have enjoyed them both. The grounds are well kept, the area is very secure, they have a great little store that you can pick up quick necessities, and if you ask real nicely, Tia might even braid your hair at about 1/2 the cost. Also, if Esther is still there, she makes AMAZING bread that you can buy pretty cheaply! Make sure you check out the member party as well! My only complaint is that the beach isn't right there. There is a bus stop near the resort as well...taxis get pretty expensive quick...especially with 10 people! Enjoy your stay! We always do!!
Reviewed by: Gabrielle from on Jun 30 2007 Not What we expected Most of the attractions are away from the place - including the beach. This place is definately set up as a yacht club as long as you are docking your own boat. Because there are never any boats available to take out. All are out of service. There is an activity board - it changes or things do not occur that is listed. Also, the place takes a commision to set up your tours -
