Located in historic Old Parliament House, this exhibit space is as pleasing as the collection itself. The concept was implemented in 1997 and is growing steadily, due in part to independently commissioned portraits. Historic and contemporary pieces highlight individuals who have made an impact on Australian culture. Gallery tours are available and the gift shop has a fine collection of books and gifts. For those not fulfilled by culture alone, the Backbenches Cafe is open throughout the day.
