Back to Friendship Hotel NEVER AGAIN! We stayed for 3 nights at the Friendship Hotel on arrival in China mid September.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Oct 13 2007 Average hotel We were in building 4 and on looking round discovered that there was not enough room to hang a hankie. Suggest this building is probably best for single business travellers, without luggage! Otherwise service and cleanliness was fine. Beer garden was ok, but at 30rmb for a drink, sold in the bar round the corner from the hotel at 3rmb, think it was a bit of a rip-off.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Aug 13 2007 Safe place for and to put tourists It's huge, old, labrynthine. Just like the rest of China. We stayed in Building 3 for 5 days in early July, 2007. It has not recieved the attention that 2, 4, and 8 have. This means it's old and beat, and shows the wear and tear a busy hotel gets. One of our group had no hot water. The furniture is quaint, but comfortable. Rock hard mattresses. I slept on top of all my covers, with a slipsack and heavy blanket. I kept the air on to help mask the muskiness of the carpet. I'm convinced no one in China owns a carpet cleaner. Or bleach. Much of the rest of the hotel is extravagant elegance, but not where we were put. There were PLA that kept us out of Building 4 altogether. No reason given.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 12 2007 The Worst Hotel The Beijing Friendship Hotel has to be one of the worst hotels Ive ever stayed in. The staff is rude, the place is dirty, and for the price, youd be better staying off in one of the Western-style hotels or one of the small business hotels in the area.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Dec 03 2006 Beijing Friendship Hotel - the noisiest place on Earth Whatever you do do NOT go to Beijing's Friendship Hotel until late 2006. It's a building site right now, and will be for nearly another year. Unbelievable levels of construction noise begin before 7 o'clock in the morning. Also, don't believe the websites that show pictures of a swimming pool - both pools have been demolished and are in the middle of the incredibly loud construction site.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Jul 08 2005 Friendship Hotel Beijing We stayed at the Friendship during a organised China-tour with Travelsphere UK.I would rate the hotel a good 4star by European standards.Rooms and bathroom spacious and well fitted, very clean, hotel spotless - a huge complex in a garden "compound" made up of 4 separate buildings connected by underground corridors. Has souvenirs shops, several restaurants (incl.TGI Fridays + a pub) and a supermarket on site. Breakfast is buffet-style with a lot of Chinese and Japanese hot and cold dishes, but some western food was available (bread butter and jam, hams and cheeses, toasts and omelettes or eggs and bacon) - coffee, juices and fruit. Green tea but no black tea (Indian tea very difficult to find in China). There is a cash-machine on site - a small business centre (for sending emails) and money exchange. Reception helpful although their English is always a bit limited.A "bier-garden" in the huge garden area is a wellcome spot to sip a drink in the evenings - drinks are quite cheap, staff speaks English and is very helpful. There is a big shopping centre opposite the hotel, although crossing the two 3-lane roads quite an experience! There are security guards at the exit/entrance of the hotel so feels very secure. To get anywhere you really need a taxi (very cheap) but we were moved around by coaches with our own tour.
