Waste of time...
I used to live in Seattle, St.Louis, and Miami. Honestly, those zoos were much better than this one! It was lame. Counting the bird, elephants, a tiger hiding, and a lion hiding. we saw 4 species of animals.. in FOUR HOURS.

Utter waste of time
I went to the National Zoo with my wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter and was totally, one-hundred-percent disappointed. My granddaughter wanted to see giraffes, but no giraffes. No elephants. No nothing. And the animals they did have must have been in hibernation. In the course of the day, I saw less animals than I could see in my back yard. I guess the zoo's going in the same direction as the country - straight downhill.

Not impressed
This zoo was awful! The metro ride to get there was more exciting. The layout is not compatible with their crowd size, there's usually only one or two small places to see into large exhibits, forcing people to smush together into one area to look at what's probably an empty exhibit. The VA zoo in Norfolk is 455982374509283745 times better!

Don't bother.
We were excited to see the giant pandas. Had to walk all through the zoo (after driving around one-half hour looking for a parking spot). Exhibits are kind of "old". Ape exhibit was too "stinky" to enjoy;. Just felt we could have skipped this zoo. It was free to get in, but the parking starts at $10.00 first hour and we paid $15.00 for twenty minutes over an hour! Also, giant pandas were inside and the display area was hot and cramped. Don't waste your time at this zoo.

DC Zoo
Went to the zoo with my son. Saw 2 animals in 2 hours. The crowds were terrible, like leaving a football game, and the people were very discourteous. We saw 2 fights while we were there and tons of foul language. We will never go back again. What a waste of a beautiful day.

Like it.
It was a good free thing to do. We spent so much on food and stuff during our stay that it was nice having a day that was free. We got to watch the elephants have a refreshing wash. I think this would be a good place to take the kids and spend a day.

It was just okay.....
I live here in DC and had not been to the zoo in years. It was very crowded for a sunday. Was upset because it was like noon and half the animals were not out. We saw no lions or tigers at all..dont know where they were. Didnt see any giraffes. It was only 1 hippo, no rhinos, only saw 1 elephant. The best part was the baby gorrilla and the organtuns..they were cool. It was just ok....was looking forward to seeing more.

Boring and uphill.
I live in Grand Rapids Michigan and I'd rather go to my local zoo. A third of the animals weren't out, even though it was 2pm, a lot of the exhibits were closed, and they had one of almost everything. Seeing one lion and one tiger just stand there was depressing. The two elephants were nice to see, but the small, crowded, smelly building they were in was not. The fish exhibit reminded me of a modest pet store (the aquarium in Baltimore has it beat hands down) with only a few, tiny displays. Consession areas weren't open, and the entire zoo is on a hill. Make pushing a family member confined to wheelchair interesting at best. The only redeeming quality was seeing the gorrilla baby and the orangutangs, which simply sat staring back at you indoors.
