Myoshinji and its 47 sub-temples belong to the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism and dates from 1342. Admission is possible to the massive Lecture Hall (Hatto) and Superior's Quarters (Hojo). Entry into a number of the sub-temples has an entry fee. Included in the price is a tour of the temple with a written English explanation. Highlights are the steam-bath house and a painting of a dragon by Kano Tan'yu considered a masterpiece. The symmetrically laid out grounds are pleasant for strolling at any time of the day.
