The vast trade fair and conference center - la Mostra d'Oltremare - is located in Fuorigrotta, the district connected to the city center via the old subway line (Campi Flegrei station) and from Cumana (the Mostra station). The fair district is reached via the futuristic Piazzale Tecchio paved with wood, with three tall structures made from wood, steel and cement, with palm trees, fountains and flights of brick steps where the young hang out. Built during the Fascist 1920s to glorify Italy's ephemeral empire, the area now has six miles of avenues and sports and recreation facilities. Each year, there are about 30 exhibitions and trade fairs, including the House Fair frequented by exhibitors from all over the world, and Nauticsud, a fair for recreational boating. A walk around the avenues will certainly bring the semicircular Esedra fountain to your notice; it has many basins that run down the slope of an artificial hill. In the same area as the Mostra, you will find the zoo and Edenlandia, an entertainment area.

Fiera del baratto e dell'usato marks the most important second hand show in Italy. This is not only the place to get rid of those long forgotten objects, it is also an opportunity to recycle, to be ecologically "correct" and to earn some extra pocket money. The event, which is organized in coordination with the Comune di Napoli and the Regione Campania is attended by national and international environmental organizations such as Legambiente, Greenpeace, Stop Disaster and the WWF. Also there will be special events, amongst them an educational workshop about creative recycling for children. Check website for more details.
