Back to Alpenzoo Wish the animals had more room It was a great zoo, very scenic. However, I wish the animals had more room to roam. It was the first time in my life that I had the privilege of seeing a gray wolf, and it was incredible.
Reviewed by: Jennifer from on Feb 19 2008 A lovely time Although not exactly the most amazing zoo, it did feel unique. It wasn't typical of the rest of Innsbruck and the zoo itself had a different feel to anywhere else I've visited.
Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on May 28 2007 Time of the year is important Visiting towards the end of November, many of the animal exihibits would be in hibernation. Probably great in spring, summer, and fall. However, even a warm November, will result in a reduced display (understandably so).
Reviewed by: NK from on Dec 05 2006 Alpinuggen This place is OK I guess if you like to see a bunch of squirrels & rats. Oh and chickens too yes they have chickens. Hmmm. The best part is the tram ride but take my advice and take the tram all the way up to the top of the mountain where it seems as if you are on top of the world! Great view of the Alps. You can ejoy a great view of the town below while sipping on some high-octane coffee or chugging a bier or vine.
Reviewed by: Vince from on Jun 22 2006 Really Good experience It was cool because it was on a mountain and it had soooooooooooooooooooooooo many animals and it had good prices and things to eat and it had such a variety of food and gifts. The animals were fantastic and there wasn't anything that i didn't like but a few of the animals looked bored and they bored me a little bit too.

Reviewed by: A Yahoo! Contributor from on Mar 24 2005 Worth repeated visits. I love the Alpenzoo! Whatever the season, there is plenty to see and do, and there's no reason to feel sorry for the animals in winter as they only stock animals native to the alps. So, if you're looking for lions, tigers etc, look elsewhere! The walks around the zoo are pleasant even in poor weather as there are plenty of rest stops, sheltered from wind and rain with tremendous views over Innsbruck, including a great view of the olympic ski-jump which shows you just how scary that sport is. All the animals seem happy and at home and my kids love it. There is a farm animal section for smaller children which gives them the opportunity to touch, smell and see animals up close. The otters are real show-offs, putting on an entertaining variety act when they're not asleep (which is quite often). The bears come up close enough to smell too - much bigger than you'd expect. The sound of the wolves howling at noon or the lynx barking at passers by stays with you a long time. Value for money refreshments are available year round and the shop stocks a lot of educational stuff to take home. Best value of all are the posters, costing from 3.60 which I have up on the kid's bedroom walls. I recommend this to anyone with or without kids, in any weather, on any budget. However, be aware of some steep-ish hills which manual wheelchair users would struggle with. Other than that, everyone is friendly and cheerful and are happy to see you. I forgot... there's a lovely bear-inspired adventure playpark for the kids too. Aim to spend a good half-day there - the place isn't that big!
