This gigantic panoramic painting dates back to the turn of the 20th Century and is one of Innsbruck's major cultural attractions. It took Munich artist Michael Zeno Diemer three months to complete. The painting depicts the Battle of Berginsel in 1809, when the Tyroleans defeated the forces of Napoleon. Particularly noteworthy are the features of the painting which depict the battle-weary faces of the heroic Tyrolean farmers who led their army to victory.
