Cafe Odeon is primarily known as the birthplace of Dadaism. In later years some very notable personalities such as Albert Einstein, James Joyce and Patricia Highsmith have witnessed the charm of this art nouveau-style cafe. Even today the Odeon, opened in 1910, attracts the biggest artists, actors, authors as well as aspiring ones. Unfortunately this marble-lined cafe was halved in size in 1972 to make room for a new chemist next door. Mirrors have been fitted on the walls to attempt to recreate that spacious feel, visually if by no other means. Lunchtime normally brings a choice of three different generous set menus, complete with vegetarian options. The chocolate cake most certainly comes with a stamp of approval and in summer guests can sit outside on the terrace looking out onto the boulevard.
