Annie Malone: Black Beauty Culture Pioneer and Millionaire
Jan 1st, 2009 to Dec 31st, 2009
Her full name was Annie Minerva Turnbo Pope Malone, and she sparked a beauty industry revolution. Born in 1869, she grew up to helm a lucrative beauty-college and beauty-product empire. She raked in the millions, commanded 100,000 employees, headed 48 schools and more than 100 stores, and owned four mansions (constituting a whole city block) in Chicago's South Side. Her ten-syllable moniker alone would make her worthy of celebration, but Annie went above and beyond. Revel in her life and times at the museum's Annie Malone exhibit.
