Of all the locales on Earth, the Amazon Rainforest is perhaps the absolute richest in wildlife and biodiversity. For this reason, Shedd has elected to celebrate this wondrous place with a special exhibition of its own. On display are giant turtles, poisonous frogs, anacondas, piranhas, mammoth spiders, toxic toads, tetras, and a plethora of fish (including the fruit-eating tambaqui). Of special concern is the ways in which all of these fascinating creatures deal with the Amazon River's dramatic seasonal tidal shifts. See Shedd website for Amazon fun facts and ticketing info.
Animal Encounters

The name says it all. Shedd offers kids of all ages an opportunity to meet an animal face to face. Cockroaches, frogs, turtles, and snakes are all popular attractions. Encounters take place daily at 10a and 2p. Look for specific information in the aquarium's main foyer (Kovler Family Hall) each morning.
Lizards and the Komodo King

This special exhibition asks its audience "Do you believe in dragons?" Skeptics will surely laugh off that question right away. Then they bring out the Komodo King. Technically, he's just a lizard - but he is the world's largest. Not too shabby! Furthermore, he is surrounded here by geckos, monitors, basilisks, chameleons, skinks, and more. That's more lizards than you can shake a stick at! The event is sponsored by Ty Beanie Babys, so be on the look out for some furry little promotional tie ins.
Marine Mammal Presentations

Chase down some dolphins and whales, right here in Chicago! Watch them dive, spyhop, and tail walk. Excursions are mounted daily at 10:30a, 11:30a, 1:30p, and 3p, with an additional 4:30p show on weekends and holidays. Located in the Oceanarium.
SpongeBob SquarePants in 4-D

Kids will be clamoring for more! This "4-D" film expands on traditional 3-D films by adding real-life bubbles, a leg tickling device, and buzzing seats to the already innovative three-dimensionally animated feature. Look out for SpongeBob's pickle! Tickets are $5 at the main ticket booth, and $6 at the theater entrance. Plan ahead!
Wild Reef: Sharks at Shedd

Reef life comes to Chicago! This replica of a giant coral reef features rays, schools of fish, mangroves, a variety of corals, and SHARKS! That's right! At any given moment, you may find yourself face to face with a real live predator. Kids will love the excitement and hint of danger. Adults will appreciate the authenticity.
