Not worth the drive

Would you recommend this to a friend?
No

Why? / Why Not?
It was dirty and crowded. Even the local driver who took me there was not keen to venture to that part of the city. I was relieved to get out of there after having a good look at the boats.

Photographer's Paradise
If you are a trourist with a journalist heart, this is where you go if you want to see the real Indonesia. I wouldn't recommend the place for small children or people who has trouble with heat and humidity.

Very authentic Jakarta!
Once you're out of the shopping malls and the air-conditioned taxi you will find the REAL Jakarta at Sunda Kelapa. Yes, there is a waste problem in this town, in this country. Yes, there is hard work for no money at this place, so (wo)men probably shouldn't go alone there. And yet you've got to experience this authentic place as you will feel the history's presence once you reach the dutch watch tower (it's worth to get on top but watch your feet!) and it's canons...the current harbor you don't see yet from here and if you want to see the open sea you better walk (or even better take a ride) to the far end of the quay. On the way there you'll see discarded boats, new built ones, traditional boats and people who carry wood from Kalimantan onto the quay for 2 $ a day...

Why bother
I made it to the lookout and the pile of floating garbage turned me off, not a nice part of town, didn't even go to the harbour.

boats are boring!
it was cold. the only thing to see was boats, people on boats, people getting on boats, boats on the water, boats in the harbour, people getting off boats. I mean, who wants to see that? Plus, people kept trying to con me into buying things. "Buy this" or "I'm selling this - very, very cheap". In a word, CRAP.
