What you should know about the Daniele
The ONLY good thing about this hotel is the location. It's too bad, really. If someone who knew something about hotel management would take over... this could be one of the most popular places around. Dirty, no air conditioning (it was 100 degrees and I am not exaggerating!)and extremely rude staff!

NOT a 3 star
I just stayed at the Daniele for the first time and had it booked cheap (thank God). It was NOT good. It's really not fair to use the term "Boutique" to mean that it hasn't been updated since 1981. And be prepared, there is NO air conditioning! They fail to mention they have fans and heaters, but no air. If I had to sum it up in one word, it would be "Grubby". I asked the front desk if I could change rooms and they told me there were no "non-smoking" rooms available. I had to call the website I used to book the hotel and have THEM call before the hotel all of the sudden came up w/ 2 more non-smoking rooms to choose from. There was only one person working that I saw, and no one to help with luggage or even help open the door. I fail to see how it could be considered "attentive" in any way. I only rated it as a "2" for Value b/c I got such a cheap rate through another website. I would rate this no higher than a 2 star hotel.

Not so sure
Our room was double-booked. There was remodeling going on, and our suite's electrical outlets did not work. We had to rig up extension cords to watch TV. Radio did not work. There were space heaters in the rooms. The customer service was lacking. The best thing about this hotel? We got our money back!

Mixed, very mixed
I can see why people who like small older hotels like it, the lobby is charming, location good. I do agree that the hallways are sort of old and battered, but that didn't bother me. Room seemed okay, nothing special. I came into the room and the window was open (it was pretty cold out). After I closed it I noticed I could not adjust the heating and it was really very stifling and hot. I mentioned this to the check out person, sayiing that the knobs were off the heater. At first she just sort of said something like "Uh huh" I then asked if they were that way in all the rooms and she proceeded to explain that it was an old heating system and it was on either air conditioning or heat, no adjustments. She could have been a bit more forthright right from the start. Anyway, I've decided I'm more of a La Quinta or Hampton Inn kind of gal.

A complete 180!
WOW! As a loyal traveler, I always prefer to stay at the Daniele. I've seen it through good times (the '80s) and bad times (the '90s). Upon my return visit in September '06, I can honestly say that it's never been better. The staff is attentive and extremely helpful and the rooms look like they've received some repairs recently.

Not again, unless..
..if they get a big rehab then maybe. Lobby is nice, rooms are dated. Wallpaper is peeling, shower is tiny and short (I'm 5'11"--had to bend back to wash hair), dressing area is dinky. No control over air temp in room. Rooms smells odd, not bad, not good. Handle from dresser came off in my hand, chaise chair looks nice at first glance but I wouldn't sit on it; dirty and stained. Sheets were clean, pillows nice, bedspread creepy. Carpets in hall are stained on all floors. Pool seemed ok. Restaurant was closed for some reason with no info on when it would open. If you are looking for a really nice TV and a lot of cable channels you'll be happy here. They need to sweat the details--I shouldn't have to work to get tp off the roll.

A real gem!
The Daniele Hotel is a gem of a hotel -- lots of old world charm and amenities. The food in The Daniele Hotel restaurant is excellent and the whole dining experience is most pleasurable. The dark wood paneling is so classy! We always put our guests up at The Daniele Hotel when they come to St. Louis and they love the place. Our guests have never been disappointed! We eat there often year round!!

Pleasant Experience
The Daniele Hotel reminded me of a bed and breakfast. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the wall paper and the unique touches- ceramic figurines were on the desk. I liked how the front desk staff addressed me by name and asked how I was. The fitness center had the equipment I use back home.
