Declared Museo de Bellas Artes in 1917, it was only in 1938 that this institution could have its own headquarters, a Neoclassic style building designed by Carlos Raúl Villanueva. An adjacent wing was inaugurated in 1976 and this concluded the changes to its second and last headquarters site. The previous site was taken over by the Galería de Arte Nacional. The abrupt change of premises brought about the reinvention of this museum, which has been done very successfully over the years. Every inch of space has been taken advantage of. The visitor that goes up the ramps will be able to admire the valuable Egyptian collection arranged in the landing. The terrace and the garden display sculpture by prestigious international artists. The museum also has three rooms for temporary exhibitions, permanent collections featuring Latin American, European and North American works of art amongst others. Other facilities include a library and an auditorium, guided tours, workshops and other events to promote cultural manifestations. Admission is free.
