Founded in 1896, Käsehaus Wingenfeld is the oldest cheese shop in Cologne. The shop has an excellent selection of cheeses from across Europe, with an emphasis on French and Swiss cheeses, including many cheeses made from un-pasteurized milk and goats milk. The shop supplies some of Cologne's best hotels and restaurants and satisfies the choosiest of connoisseurs, but the service is still friendly and down-to-earth. They have over 250 sorts, from Compte to Rogotte, Cantal to Beauforte, and you can sample them before you buy. Prices range from EUR 1.50-3.50 per 100 grams. Try their homemade quiches and cheese creams, or order a customized cheese plate for your party or reception. They also sell good wines. You can see the cheeses aging in their ripening room, luckily behind a window so that you don't have to smell some of them!
