Located in the heart of North Laine, this place is a mecca for Brighton's younger (at heart) crowd. A pleasant pub during the day, it gets lively on Friday and Saturday nights. The Mash Tun has two floors - downstairs is the main social area, adorned with totem poles and vaguely Mexican and Native American art; upstairs is the smaller "chill-out room" with brightly coloured, slightly insane modern art on the walls, large, comfy sofas and easy chairs. They do a variety of cocktails and have the usual lagers and bitters as well as Hoegaarden, a pricey but gorgeous Belgian beer. Pub food is available every day until 8pm.
