Where To Stay

Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding area offer a rich array of accommodation. Whether you are staying overnight, for the weekend or longer, whatever your taste and budget you will surely be spoilt for choice.

By far the greatest selection of accommodation in Stratford-upon-Avon is afforded by guest houses and small B&Bs. Many of these are centrally situated within the town centre. Evesham Place, Alcester Road and Shipston Road in particular offer a wide range of traditional B&Bs—all tempting visitors with the world-renowned full English breakfast! Good examples include the award winning Aidan Guest House, the Moonraker House—as featured in the "Which B&B Guide"—and the non-smoking Eastnor House Hotel: all perfectly placed for shopping and entertainment facilities, and the Royal Shakespeare Theatres.

As you might imagine for a town steeped in history and literary charm, Stratford-upon-Avon boasts accommodation that reflects its rich heritage. For a stay with a little bit of drama take a look at Curtain Call with its individually themed rooms, the old fashioned charm of Cymbeline House, or Twelfth Night, a former pied-a-terre for Royal Shakespeare Company actors. For a real taste of history there is the Falcon, a former alehouse in Chapel Street, The White Swan with its gabled, medieval front or the Alveston Manor Hotel, set in its own landscaped gardens complete with the Cedar Lawns upon which William Shakespeare presented his first performance of the magical "Midsummer Night's Dream."

For the visitor looking for a chance to relax in addition to catching up on culture and history you will find a host of places that go out of their way to help you unwind! The four star Stratford Manor boasts a superb leisure complex complete with heated swimming pool, spa, sauna, gym, tennis courts and beauty treatments. The Stratford Moat House, next to the river in the heart of the town, will also give you the chance to work that body or be pampered in its 'Club Moativation'. And if it's the great outdoors and golf that you are looking for then the majestic Welcombe Hotel & Golf Course or the excellent Ettington Chase Hotel & Conference Centre will suit your needs, just a mile or 4 miles out of town respectively.

As well as providing for the tourist, Stratford-upon-Avon's excellent range of hotels also cater for the discerning businessperson. The 3 star Swan's Nest on the river in the heart of the town can accommodate up to 150 conference delegates, The Grosvenor Hotel, a listed building, has room for 100 and the 3 star Thistle Stratford-upon-Avon is ideal for smaller groups of up to 50. All of these hotels are perfectly placed to enable the business traveller to reach the Midlands motorway network with ease. The M40 and M42 leading to the M6 and M5 are all within easy driving distance. Similarly Birmingham International Airport and the cross-country rail connections at Birmingham International are just 25 minutes away.

Visitors who travel to Stratford-upon-Avon by car or those looking to stay outside the town itself have numerous picturesque villages from which to choose. All are close to Stratford-upon-Avon town centre and all form part of the Heart of England's rich tapestry, depicting rural England at its very best. Look to The Grange, a romantic Georgian house set in tranquil surroundings to the south of Stratford-upon-Avon in Long Marston, and consider too the Pear Tree Cottage overlooking Mary Arden's House in the quintessential English village of Wilmcote. There's also the delightful Bridgend Guest House on the river at Welford-on-Avon. For something a little different why not consider Burton Farm, a 140 acre working farm situated a mile and a half outside of Stratford-upon-Avon? Or maybe a traditional 16th century coaching inn—The New Inn Hotel & Restaurant.

Slightly further afield the 3 star Evesham Hotel in Evesham or indeed the enchanting country house The Mill At Harvington are ideal places from which to explore Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, the Heart of England and the Malverns. Enjoy!
