Where To Stay

add to Travel Bag (NEW)

A few years ago it could be said that there was a shortage of visitor accommodations on Montserrat, but now this is far from the case. At the height of the volcanic crisis, when folks had to relocate from the volcanic south, accommodation was scarce, but things have moved on since then. With the re-opening of several areas in 1998, the building of a brand new hotel in 1999, and the availability of several bed and breakfasts, apartments and luxury villas, there is a range of accommodation to choose from, all located in the safe, occupied northern zone.

The beautiful newTropical Mansion Suites was opened in December 1999. It is the work of a talented local family, the Galloways, who designed, built and run the hotel. The building was an act of faith and a labor of love, beautifully designed, reflecting the pride of Montserrat. This very attractive, 18-room hotel can fulfill all the needs of the holidaymaker or business traveler.

The hotel features a swimming pool with gazebo, a fully stocked bar and restaurant, honeymoon suite, a gift shop, pleasant, relaxing surroundings and warm, friendly service. It is conveniently situated just a short drive away from the ferry port and the heliport. Wedding receptions, conferences, seminars, special dinners and other functions can all be accommodated at this attractive, modern hotel.

Formerly Montserrat’s leading hotel, the Vue Pointe Hotel in Old Towne can accommodate guests in fourteen double rooms and self contained cottages. Although the restaurant is not fully operational, a sandwich menu is available and meals can be bought at Jumping Jack's Beach Bar & Restaurant beach bar. Food supplies for handy self catering are available at Carol's Corner gift shop. The hotel’s Conference Centre is in full use for a host of functions, including stage and concert performances, social events, seminars, workshops and meetings, so check what’s on.

Family-owned bed and breakfasts and guesthouses include the Grand View Bed & Breakfast at Baker Hill, which was built in response to the need for accommodation in the northern occupied zone. A friendly welcome, pick-up service from the ferry or heliport, a gift and souvenir corner, optional evening meal in the pleasant dining room and use of computer services are among the features of this guesthouse.

Then there is Erindell Villa Guest Rooms, which is situated in a garden setting in Woodlands. Here, rooms open onto a swimming pool deck. Several special services are provided, such as pick-up from ferry or helicopter, free laundry, use of snorkeling equipment, free juices and snacks in-room, and an optional evening meal.

Montserrat Moments at Manjack Heights, is a very pleasant guesthouse ready to serve your needs. When you stay here you will receive a warm welcome, use of a kitchenette for handy self-catering, use of laundry facilities, and a great view of the mountains and sea.

For an informal and interesting stay, try Rose Hill, a guest room providing bed and breakfast with optional dinner in a family setting. You will learn all about the Volcano from videographer David Lea while here, and can view the Price of Paradise video series showing close up shots of the volcano. You can also rent a mountain bike for exploring the island.

These guesthouses provide use of computers for e-mail, and all provide ceiling fans and/or air conditioning and cable TV (up to 30 channels, mostly from the United States). It should be noted that in some cases breakfast is provided at an additional cost. A government tax of seven percent is usually additional to the quoted rates, as is the case for the other accommodations.

Another attractive option is a one-bedroom apartment, usually incorporated into the homes of its owners, but nevertheless completely self-contained. The apartments usually feature a fully operational kitchen or kitchenette with stove, refrigerator and other appliances, washing facilities, cable TV, fans or air conditioning. In most cases, breakfast supplies are provided for handy self-catering.

Hodds' Haven, the Egret House, Rita's House
and Our Little House, all in Woodlands, are ready to welcome you for a short-term rental (rates for longer term are negotiable). Egret Houes, Hodd’s Haven and Our Little House also feature use of the swimming pool.

Montserrat also features a host of beautiful villas. This is perhaps a unique feature of Montserrat’s accommodation scene, arising from the sale of land for real estate, which started in the 1960s, and the development of residential tourism. Most villas are located in the leafy, secluded areas of Woodlands, Olveston and Old Towne, as described in the District Guide. Most villas feature swimming pools, telephone, cable TV, well-kept scenic gardens and mountain and/or sea views. A range of services can also be arranged, including housekeeping, car rental and pickup from the ferry or heliport.

Tradewinds Real Estate, is an example of such a villa. West Indies Real Estate and
