Where To Stay

add to Travel Bag (NEW)

Ever since times of old the famous sights of Heidelberg have attracted visitors from all over the world. Even today Heidelberg offers the right accommodation for everybody.

Altstadt (Old Town)

The hotels in the Old town are, of course, very popular. Mostly well preserved historical buildings, rarely do they have extras such as air-conditioning, lift, or sauna. In general, however, the hotels are renovated in short bursts, the rooms are equipped with modern facilities and those staying in the center of the town will appreciate the short distance to the well-known Heidelberg sights. For example, directly at the Old Bridge you will find the Goldene Hecht or the Holländer Hof. The Goldene Falke is situated directly at the market-place whilst the Hotel Perkeo is located in the midst of the famous Hauptstraße with a lively pedestrian area. Some hotels such as the Zum Pfalzgrafen, the Gasthaus Backmulde or the Hotel-Restaurant Weißer Bock are situated in peaceful side streets of the Old Town.

As far as more luxury hotels are concerned, Der Europäische Hof - Hotel Europa as well as the hotel Crowne Plaza (on the edge of the Old Town) offer demanding guests everything their heart desires— including beautiful indoor bathing resorts for their recreation.

You will find a more historic and romantic ambience in the luxury hotel Hirschgasse on the other side of the Neckar River or in the romantic hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg opposite the Holy Ghost Church. Those as well as the Landhaus Grenzhof, which is located outside Heidelberg, have restaurants serving culinary pleasures for even fastidious gourmets. Hotel Tannhäuser, an "Economy Prize" winner, specializes in recreating the flair of theaters with fitting decor.

Those who enjoy a view of the Neckar River, will certainly find a suitable room in the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten or in the Hotel Neckar. In the hotel Schönberger Hof too, there are some rooms looking over the Neckar. However, if you prefer the view of the romantic gabled roofs of the Old town, you can find this in the upper floors of the hotels Am Rathaus and in some of the upper located rooms of the Goldener Falke. Here, as at Am Schloss, you will find several rooms with a marvelous view looking out over the world-famous Castle ruin that is located just above the Old town.

Weststadt, Rohrbach, Pfaffengrund & Kirchheim

Heidelberg's guests will, however, find modern and comfortable hotels in the different municipal districts and suburbs, for example in the Weststadt, situated close to the Old town. The Hotel Kohler or the Classic Inn Hotel, in the suburb of Kirchheim are good choices or in Pfaffengrund the Neu-Heidelberg. Handschuhsheim on the other side of the Neckar features the Hotel Elen or in Rohrbach on the southern outskirts the Hotel Rose is a good stop off. In these places it is often much quieter than in the lively centre and as Heidelberg is—in a geographical sense, not very large; the bus and tram services allow for very comfortable and fast travel from the suburbs into the center of town and its main sights.

Neuenheim

Visitors who want to stay within a low-price range will also have little trouble finding the right accommodation. For example, the Hotel Anlage at the fringe of the Old town and the lodging house Berger in the district Neuenheim are both good value. Furthermore, if you visit Heidelberg in summer, you are able to get a low-priced place to stay on the Camping-Heidelberg site, situated directly on the banks of the Neckar River. Ideal for families and younger visitors is as well the youth hostel, here you can stay during any season on a low budget.
