Las Vegas may be known as the "Sin City,” but it has a lot of great attractions. Certainly, the casinos and nightlife are what bring visitors here, but there so much more to do. There are several historic and interesting sites, that are perfect for guided or self-guided tours.
Las Vegas Strip
The Strip is without a doubt Las Vegas’ number one attraction. Check out the Shark Reef with its rare green sea turtles and golden crocodiles, then stop into the nearby King Tut's Tomb & Museum located in the giant pyramid of the Luxor, which has the brightest beam of light in the world shining off the top. There are many places to dine on the Strip, but the steak at the Strip House is among the best in town. Keep walking north and catch one of the free nightly water and light shows at the Fountains at the Bellagio.
Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is one of Nevada’s proudest possessions. It displaces the Colorado River and creates Lake Mead, a large man-made waterway. You'll find a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants found within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. At night, try the Lake Mead Cruise for dinner and dancing, as well as beautiful scenery. There is even a nearby theater, the Regal Boulder Station, that shows contemporary films.
Fremont Street Experience
In the center of downtown on Fremont Street is the Fremont Street Experience. Along the Fremont Street Experience is the Neon Museum is where you can enjoy historic Las Vegas neon signs. Close by is the City of Las Vegas Fire Department where children can have free guided tours of the fire department. If you get hungry, then head to Grotto Ristorante or Roberta's Cafe and Steakhouse.
Las Vegas Natural History Museum
The exhibits at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum include many different types of dinosaur fossils and various mounted animals. Nearby, Center Stage Restaurant serves classic American fare. The large mall, the Design District, is also located within walking distance. You can also take in the contemporary art pieces at the Trifecta Gallery. Sample the sushi at the nearby Cafe Wasabi.
Mount Charleston
Mount Charleston serves as an escape for many during the summer months. Desert landscapes change to greenery as the elevation increases. There are two hotels on Mount Charleston, which locals lovingly refer to as the Old Lodge called Mount Charleston Lodge and the the New Lodge, formally called the Mount Charleston Hotel. You will find campgrounds and picnic areas up in the Toiyabe National Forest area, so make a day of it and bring a lunch and a blanket. One little-known feature at the Mount Charleston Hotel is the nine-hole, par-35 Mount Charleston Golf Course.
Las Vegas was created to provide entertainment, so don't forget to tour local landmarks either on your own or with a guided tour. If you want a guided tour you have plenty of options.
