Fort Worth's typical Texas sprawl makes it virtually impossible to get around comfortably on foot, making renting a car a good option.

Stockyards National Historic District

Riding the Grapevine Vintage Railroad is a fun way to learn about the city's past, while admiring the authentic 1920s Victorian style coach. Travel from Grapevine to the Stockyards and catch a glimpse of the historic cotton belt. Here you can go to the Stockyards Station and the Stockyards Museum. A tour worth looking into is the Oakwood Cemetery and Sinners Tour, sponsored by the museum. For those interested in the history of the Fort Worth Stockyards, you will be amazed by the collection of "Cowtown." Experience the west as you dine nearby at Cattlemen's Steak House.

Sundance Square

Downtown Ft. Worth's shopping and entertainment district, Bass Hall, the Convention Center and the Renaissance Worthington Hotel are all just a few blocks apart. Check local listings to find an event for the whole family, or stop by one of the many theaters for live music and comedy. Sundance Square is also home to art galleries, and mouth watering restaurants. Dine at the famed Mercury Chophouse.

Museum of Science and Industry

In the Cultural District you'll find the Amon Carter hall, the Kimbell Art Museum and the Museum of Science and History. Learn more about the wild west and Ft. Worth's past as you try to choose which museum to visit first. The Cultural District is also home to Ft. Worth's performing arts scene. If you are in the mood for a night at the opera you are in luck. The Ft. Worth Community Arts Center features daily performances of dance, opera, poetry, and music. If a relaxing day at the park is more your style, stop by the serene Trinity Park, then grab a bite at Kincaid's Hamburgers.

Fort Worth Zoo

The University area is home to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Casa Manana and the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. The botanical gardens will provide a sanctuary for your senses, as you explore the rose gardens, Japanese garden, as well as the other sections of the conservatory. Then, grab a slice at Mama's Pizza and tour the Texas Christian University campus. Don't forget to make a stop at the Fort Worth Zoo. The Fort Worth Zoo will soon feature the MOLA, or Museum of Living Art, urging visitors to explore the natural world with their living exhibitions. Great for the whole family, the zoo also features a petting coral and country carousel.

Thistle Hill

Tour the historic Thistle Hill mansion and the Ball-Eddleman-McFarland House. See first hand where wealthy cattle barons lived, taking you back in time to experience Texas extravagance. These homes are now Fort Worth landmarks, available to rent for special occasions. After admiring these marvels that were built in the 1900s, grab lunch at BJ Keefers Restaurant, then explore the Fort Worth Water Gardens and the Vintage Flying Museum. In fact, the Vintage Flying Museum features one of the last flying B-17's in the world. If you are lucky and time your visit right, the annual Hangar Dance at the museum celebrates the 1940s.

A tour guide can show you Fort Worth on a train, in a helicopter or on foot, if you'd rather not rent a car.
