Visit Ribeauville, a charming 13th century town with many Renaissance fountains. Created by the powerful Counts of Ribeaupierre, the romantic ruins of their Castles still dominate the town. The Church of the Augustines Convent, the 13th century Butchers' Towers and its numerous narrow streets create a special atmosphere.
Drive through picturesque villages along the Wine Route with a stopover at Kaysersberg, birthplace of Doctor Albert Schweitzer (Nobel Peace Price in 1953). The "Mount of the Emperor" crossed by the singing "Weiss" River, is situated right at the foot of the Vosges Mountains. Kaysersberg brilliantly managed to preserve its clean natural environment and its rich historical heritage. Storks feel at ease in this peaceful village and never miss a opportunity to greet visitors!
Visit the famous Castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg, an impressive fortress of the 12th century offering a splendid view of the plain of Alsace. The Castle was the residence of several eminent proprietors including members of the Habsbourg dynasty and the German emperor Wilhelm II. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the latter began extensive restoration and rebuilding work, bringing it back to its former glory. It is now one of the most visited National Monuments in France.
Journey through the Wine Route to Riquewihr, the "Pearl of the vineyard" listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Surrounded by vineyards including the Grand Cru Wines "Schonenbourg" and "Sporen", nestling in a fold of green hills, Riquewihr personifies a union of the pleasure of fine wines from prestigious vineyards and extremely well preserved architecture.
