Dynamic guest conductor Gilbert Varga will lead the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme of 19th and 20th century music, including Mendelssohn's "Italian" symphony.Perhaps Milhaud is the least known of the composers on this richly varied programme. In 1940, he fled from Europe due to Nazi persecution, and then lived for several years in Brazil where he was inspired by the Latin rhythms. In the USA he taught at Mills College where Dave Brubeck became his most famous student. The Oslo Philharmonic’s own solo percussionist, Christian M. Berg, will perform Milhaud’s concert.Gilbert Varga's inspiring leadership and the exciting list of works on the programme promise an evening to remember in Oslo's Concert Hall.
